Climatic Balance (Tiao Hou)
Climatic Balance (Tiao Hou) is about adjusting the cold, hot, dry, or damp qualities of your birth month.
Climatic Balance (Tiao Hou)
In one line: Climatic Balance means "regulating climate" — your BaZi chart's seasonal qualities (cold, hot, dry, damp) need to be balanced for auspiciousness.
What is it?
The ancients believed that the seasonal climate at birth affects one's whole life:
- Winter is too cold → needs Fire to warm
- Summer is too hot → needs Water to cool
- Spring and autumn are moderate → look at specific combinations
This method of "finding remedies based on birth month" is called the Climate Useful God (Yong Shen).

- Chen month (late spring): Geng, Ding, Ren (Metal, Fire, Water — in order)
- Si month (early summer): Gui, Geng, Bing (Water, Metal, Fire)

(Other Day Masters omitted here; available in the full version.)
Why is it important?
Climatic Balance is the first priority in choosing the Useful God (per Qiongtong Baojian) — even more so than "support vs. restraint" (Day Master strength).
The famous BaZi master Ren Tieqiao said: "When there is seasonal support, look at support vs. restraint; when there is no support, look at climate."
How to read it in your BaZi chart?
- Identify your Day Master element
- Identify your birth month branch (the month defined by solar terms)
- Cross-reference Qiongtong Baojian to find the climate Useful God
- Count how many climate characters appear in your chart → more is auspicious, fewer is inauspicious
Common Misconceptions
❌ "Climatic Balance means supplement what's missing" — no, it's about what the month requires, not just deficits. ❌ "Climatic Balance is unimportant" — many great fortunes rely fundamentally on having climatic balance right. ❌ "Climate Useful God can replace Support/Restraint (Ke) Useful God" — both need to be considered together.
